"It costs $50 to $120 an hour to operate a small plane, and some private pilots are finding people to share the expense via a free matchmaker website, flyshare.com. Matching up with a pilot and route is a crapshoot, but there's no cheaper way to go for a whirl in a private plane. On a $400 flight, the pilot typically pays $200, and up to 5 people along for the ride divide the remaining $200."

Flyshare has established a website allowing travelers to match their air travel needs with general pilots' flight plans. "Travelers often have destinations that are 'off-the-beaten-path'" stated Anwar Parvez, Flyshare's co-founder. "Linking up with private pilots provides a direct route and cuts costs for travelers and pilots."
